LOVE this one! November 20, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My 16-month old daughter loves this video. She has already started trying to follow along with the steps. It's hysterical! It is wonderfully multi-ethnic, and introduces many different genres of dance. This is one video that I don't mind my little one insisting on watching several times a day. I love it too!
Not everyone will like this... July 10, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
My daughter is 2. She has always loved music and dance. So purchasing this DVD seemed like a no-brainer. Yes, she loves it -- especially the tap dance/rap skit. I'm glad that Elmo only shows up briefly (I'm a little Elmo'ed out). I agree with other reviewers that Paula is very under-dressed for a pre-school video and the hip-hop dance has to go! The dances are complicated, but the point is that the kids are getting up and moving around. They are trying to get the feel of ballet or African or tap. So what if they aren't always on count? Who is? It's fun to watch and follow along. Good buy if your kid has the rhythm!
Get Up and Dance! May 19, 2006 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I'm all for TV viewing only when it gets kids moving (and thinking)! This DVD will certainly get your preschooler dancing as they join Zoe in learning about different kinds of dances and in choreographing dance moves with Paula Abdul. Together they explore ballet, African and Asian dance, hip-hop, tap, and "silly willy nilly", Zoe's personal dance style. Overall, the program is quite entertaining and my daughter enjoyed watching the various dancers exhibiting their talents within their respective genres as well as dancing along with Zoe and Paula in the studio. The moves are pretty challenging though- most young children will not be able to copy the dances step by step (but will get a lot of exercize trying!) This is also the most multicultural of the many Sesame Street productions I have viewed. My only gripe is that one of Paula's dance moves is a little bit too provocative for children to emulate and at one point she lets out a questionable sounding grunt which is quite standard in modern music and dance but not something you want to hear from your three year old, if you know what I mean! All in all, this is a fun production for aspiring little dancers and is definitely NOT going to promote couch potato-like behavior in your little one.
The more you watch it, the more you will love it May 16, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At first my 20 months old didn't pay much attention to this DVD and walked away after 3 min of watching. Gradually he became to love it after watching several times. Now he wants to watch this DVD everyday and dance with Zoe and Paula. I am quite amazed that he can do lots of dance moves just by watching it. I agree with most of the parents that this DVD is educational and entertaining. I myself love this DVD very much and also try to learn some moves so I can keep up with my boy. Watch it more and you will love it too.
Inspiring dance! January 7, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I highly recommend this is purchased for any little one who shows an interest in dance. We bought this DVD for our daughter when she turned 2; now almost three she has amazed us by the way she uses the dances Paula and Zoe demonstrate; particularly ballet. At her nursery they are convinvced she goes to dance classes as she performs what she's learnt so beautifully! It's all done in simple gradient steps and shows a good variety of types of dance as well as ethnic dance - well worth the import to Brighton, England.
