World music for the Contemporary world March 7, 2006 To say this is world music in this case is in no way to limit it to being a stagnant repetition of the songs and sounds of other cultures and nations. 1 giant leap brings music from all over the world, and blends them with a sense of mainstream. The result is a refreshing reinvigoration of both modern pop/hip-hop and world music. Every track holds its own individual sound, which fit within the over-arching frame of the album, encasing this eclectic mix. Most people will have heard 'My Culture' which features vocal/rap from Robbie Williams, but this is certainly not the best track. I'd say the weak point for me is 'Braided Hair', which i find the most repetitive and simplistic. That said, one of my best friend adores it.
Personal Favourites are: 'Ma' Africa' - an uplifting track with a clear tribal feel, and lyrics which seek to "make Africa a land of hope" "The Way you dream" - Truly epic, truly gorgeous, blending the western with the indian and back to the western with Michael Stipe. A selfless song. "Ghosts" - A ghostly sound, with strings, building in intensity. Absolutely hauntingly beautiful.

One Giant Leap September 12, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This movie stimulated me, spiritually and intellectually, in a similar way that What the Bleep did. It emphasizes our interdependence and similarities, instead of our differences, unlike most of the media. I do not usually buy movies, but having seen a little of this at a friend's I knew that I would watch this over and over, and share it with others.
SOMETHING TO SAY TO YOUNG BLACK --AND WHITE-- MEN May 5, 2005 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
THIS OTHERWORLDLY MUSIC IS ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN. IT'S GORGEOUS AND IT'S POWERFUL AND, OF COURSE IT WILL NEVER GARNER THE ATTENTION IT DESERVES.
IT'S TOO GOOD FOR THIS CORRUPT WORLD. IT DEMANDS MUCH OF THE LISTENER AND MANY LACK THE QUALIFICATIONS TO HEAR.
WERE THIS A WORLD WHICH VALUED DECENCY AND GOOD, THIS WOULD BE ON EVERYONE'S LIPS, IN EVERYONE'S EARS, AND THE MESSAGES OF LIFE, LOVE AND HUMANITY IN EVERY PERSON'S MIND.
BUT MEANWHILE, BACK IN THE REAL WORLD, YOUNG BLACK AND WHITE MEN AND WOMEN ARE LISTENING TO SOUNDS AND WORDS WHICH MAKE THEM LESS DECENT, LESS LOVING AND LESS HUMANE. IF NOT IN THIS WORLD, PERHAPS THIS SUPERB BODY OF MUSIC WILL FIND LISTENERS IN THE NEXT.
Music for the soul April 16, 2005 Catto and Bridgeman and so, so clever. An intelligent mastering of world music, One Giant Leap is a bold movement for music, and people. A wonderful selection of artistes from the world over, singing songs "my grandfather earned... for [our] culture". A stunning album with lots of heart. Expect ethnic percussions, haunting sirens, modern pop/rock, unique instruments, and a beautiful fusion of the differences that make music and life so perfect. A product with so much character, you'd almost feel you've met, personally, each and every of the artistes and musicians.
