This is a cheap copy of a video. Lots of intereference, poor quality. Even the cover looks cheap! Looks like a poorly designed ?illegal copy. Reported to Amazon and they sent another copy which was just as bad. Don't buy...it is a waste of money! Incidentally I love this movie but will not keep such poor quality!

5 out of 5 stars Splendid comedy!   March 6, 2007

Montgomery Brewster (Richard Pryor) is a failed baseball player who inheirites a fortune from his late uncle (Hume Cronyn) but there's a catch to it all. He must spend 30 million dollars within 30 days in order to receive 300 million for he also must never tell anyone else why he has to spend the money, he gets help from his best friend Spike (John Candy) to spend the dough within 30 days or else if he fails he doesn't get the money.

Entertaining and underrated comedy flick is perhaps one of my favorite comedies ever! this is based on an original 1910 novel of the same name but i think this is the best adaptation of that story yet. The film co-stars Pat Hingle ("Batman" and "Maximum Overdrive") and Jerry Orbach, it's a very fun and funny comedy that is worth owning if you like good comedies.

The DVD has good picture with decent sound with only a few extras like production notes, cast and filmmakers bios and the trailer.

5 out of 5 stars Spend 30 million and have fun!   January 15, 2007

First, let me say that I love this movie. Brewster's Millions is great, and I'm biased. The combination of sports, comedy, and a great movie idea cannot be understated.

Richard Pryor and John Candy (as Monty Brewster and Spike Nolan, respectfully) are hilarious, delivering punch-lines, comebacks, and pithy comments throughout the entire movie. They're both washed up baseball players who, because of Brewster's unexpected inheritance. He's got to spend 30 million in 30 days without letting anyone know, without having any assets at the end of the 30 days, and be totally broke. If he's successful, he gets 300 million, the real inheritance. It's an ingenious idea for a movie. How would you do it?

Personally, I don't think it'd be that hard to do. I'd hire a bunch of celebrities to do things for me, essentially what Brewster does on a smaller scale (if they didn't bite at the offers, I'd hire washed-up celebrities that resort to reality tv to stay in the public eye).

I'd hire:
-Halle Berry as my personal bather, like the women that bathe Eddie Murphy in "Coming to America" (same outfits)
-Mike Tyson as a bodyguard
-Dale Earnhardt Jr. to be my chauffeur, make him speed excessively, and pay for his tickets and bail as needed
-Mariah Carey to sing me to sleep every night
-James Earl Jones to narrate my daily life (BOOMING VOICE: Jason wakes up. Jason opens the fridge to get milk for his cereal.)
-The Laker Girls to celebrate every time I opened a door, and Michael Buffer to announce my entry
-Jessica Alba to be my personal masseuse

The possibilities are endless, and the 30 million would be gone well before 30 days.

How would you spend 30 million!?

5 out of 5 stars That Nancy Allen....   September 9, 2006

I'm a big Nancy Allen fan. While she is predominantly identified with dramatic and action roles in films like Dressed to Kill, The Philadelphia Experiment, Out of Sight and the RoboCop trilogy, I have always been a big fan of her comedic acting. Her supporting roles in The Buddy System and I Wanna Hold Your Hand had me rolling in the aisles. It culminates into this farce set in early 90's Chicago. With a fun supporting cast including Ray Charles (!), Dean Stockwell and Saturday Night Live alumni Danitra Vance and Brad Hall, this is a pretty fun movie. If you are a fan of films that generously showcase Chicago and/or Nancy Allen, then this is a film for you. Plus, it apparently includes a directors cut that you cannot see when watching this movie on Encore or Comedy Central.
