How could you not love this movie? June 12, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
You have Anne, poor little Anne she is looked over mistreated and ignored by her own family, even though she gave up the man that she loved for them. This movie has rich and lush visuals, to me this it the best of all the Jane Austen, in my mind I could never decide who I love most, Captain Wentworth, Colonel Brandon or Mr. Darcy. Oh, I have tried to pick but its impossible. Captain Wentworth's letter to Anne the first time I read it, I just cried, when I see it in this film, I remember very well being that fourteen year old who was awkward and shy and identified so closely with Anne. Oh, if you have a romantic bone in your body, you will adore it.
Excellent June 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent production. Enjoyed it immensely. Having just visited Bath England ,the Roman Bath, Pump Room and stayed at the Abbey Green it was wonderful to see them portrayed in the film. Having met Ciaran Hinds prior to going to Bath and seeing the places were he walked made it more special to us.
The best movie made of this book June 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a big Jane Austen fan. I have read all of books and whenever a movie comes out based on one of her books I will watch it. Even though it doesn't follow the book exactly it didn't bother me because it is so well done you don't notice until you read the book again. Which I have numerous time. I have seen this movie over a dozen times and each time I still feel the saddest and joy of this movie.
When you need some angst May 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Jane Austen wrote with a lot of words, but they sure translate into great movies. I liked this one and had just seen the PBS one and wanted to see if I still liked the older one as much... I do. The looks between the actors is priceless and the subtlies are fun to watch. Plus I love the use of Chopin's music.
Well done! May 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I only just discovered Jane Austen's novel Persuasion. After reading it I watched the '08 movie version of Persuasion first and was supremely disappointed with that adaptation. I was delighted to see that this '95 version got it right! It followed Austen's novel and flowed very well. While I think Amanda Root and Ciran Hinds acted beautifully (along with the rest of the cast) I think they were a little old for the roles which could be my only criticism. Other than that I was delighted that a version true to the book was out there. The costumes and the scenery were just as I imagined as well. I would much rather have this Persuasion in my DVD collection than the '08 version.
