Music expertly portrayed in film October 11, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This presents us with a visual voyage into music that, in my opinion, excels that if the original Fantasia. Not only is the animation itself is extremely fluid, colorful, and highly diverse from segment to segment, but the representation of the music is, in itself, sheer genius. As I have come to expect from Disney, at least some research has been done into the texture of the music as well as thematical studies and tonal structure. This much, I believe, is made in evidence of both blatant and subtle use of contrast on screen to highlight the contrast of the music.
boring, poor animantion September 26, 2005 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
I liked the original Fantasia, but Fantasia 2000 is boring and disappointing. Most of the 'new' animation is inferior to the first Fantasia. One of the better segments is Socerer's Apprentice, directly taken form the original Fantasia. Too much time wasted in pointless celebrity introductions.
A feast for the senses! September 15, 2005 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Not only is the music selection great, but Disney has also used some creative and imaginative stories and illustrations to produce a fantastic feast for for both eye and ear.
Not Much Bang For Your Buck August 23, 2005 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The original Fantasia was far too long at over two hours. Fantasia 2000 is far too short at 75 minutes. Particularly when one considers the amount of time wasted on the cheesy celebrity introductions and the main intro given by an extremely uncomfortable Roy Disney. The nice thing about dvd, is it allows you to skip the cheese and enjoy the meat. There might be 60 minutes of original music/animation in the movie. I think 90 minutes of original music/animation would be ideal. Like most fans of Fantasia 2000, I already own Fantasia & I don't really need two copies of The Sorcerer's Apprentice. All the new pieces are wonderfully played and animated, though I do wish they had been faithful to the original concept and used hand drawn animation for all of it. My personal favs are The Pines of Rome with the whales and Rhapsody in Blue with NYC life. Donald & Daisy Duck from Pomp & Circumstance and the flourescent flamingos from Carnival of the Animals are some pretty neat birds. I would have cheerfully sat through 2 or 3 more numbers. Purhaps a better title for Fantasia 2000 would have been Fantasia 1 & 1/2.
Wow! August 14, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are some absolutely stunning moments in this Fantasia "sequel." It looks incredible on a big screen TV with the sound cranked way up.
