4 out of 5 stars Pump Up The Volume   November 30, 2008
Bill Laswell leads a clubland romp in drum-n-bass which sets an incredible pace that does not abate.

What is a Laswell-Submerged project, the latter delivers the hot beats, as guest drummer Guy Licata and trumpeter Toshinori Kondo deliver their takes in the mix. The sounds are provided by Laswell, Submerged and Enduser.

There is an artistry in pumping up the volume and Laswell powers that point home.

5 out of 5 stars DONT BUY LASWELL IF YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MUSIC!   November 15, 2007

m.prudhomme, If you bought on a "dare" then why would you ruin the ratings by giving it a one star simply becuz YOU coudnt handle Bill Laswell? Some people cant understand his almost mechanic fractal mind and multi musical talents, concepts, and extrordinary fusions of live instumentals, dub, jazz, dnb, indian music, ambient, metal and all forms of techno, you name it hes done it. hes done it ALL. One of the best producers / artists/ conceptualists of our time. You should be so lucky you got to have Bill Laswell and friends in your ear! Check out some Tabla Beat Science tell me thats not awesome. U like ambient? Checkout Axiom Dub! Bill PLAYS bass and has drummers and percussionists PLAY drums for his DnB ALONG with beat machines/ comps and turntablists.Which makes him so astounding musically and original that it is almost beyond belief. Bill Laswell is a Production Genious. Simply because YOU "bought this on a dare" doesnt make it right for you to give it a 1 ...thats ignorance at its finest! Check out some other projects and tell me...is this man not one of the best? Maybe its just so over your head youll never understand...who knows. Ive been following Bill Laswells projects for over 15 yrs. He has a huge underground and mainstream following. There are people that snatch up ANYTHING Laswell produces or puts out! I like mot of his work, not too fond of others because i dont like certain "genres" but I wouldnt go so far as to give ANY of his work a ONE simply because I have never heard him before like you did,sir m.prudhomme.Since u bought it on a "dare" you shouldnt have rated it at all. Unfair to his FANS. 10 million stars!

5 out of 5 stars Intense, dark atmospheric and complex drum'n'bass   July 4, 2007

The actual artist name on this CD is "Method of Defiance", but it's yet another Bill Laswell project, teaming up with a number of regulars and special guests.

Drum'n'bass is not a particularly favourite genre of mine as many of its exponents turn out repetitious electronically based tracks that tick along without much soul. On this album, you get none of that. Most of the tracks feature relentless pounding rhythms but they are also full of subtle shifts and nuaunces that take this far beyond commercial d'n'b. Some tracks feature more complex rhythms that are insistently drilled whilst various solos swirl overhead. Toshinori Kondo's trumpet work on two tracks is particularly effective.

There is little that is quite like this, but it's a bit like a more industrial version of Amon Tobin on speed. Similar to some of the stuff you would hear at a Tobin live set. If you liked this record you would probably also like Tobin's Solid Steel CD. Recorded Live: Solid Steel Presents

1 out of 5 stars if picaso did drum & bass   December 2, 2006

well the track listings are greyed out, so this purchase was on a dare. i liked what BL did with Panthalassa so i thought this workover of (someone said) techno/drum & bass would be potentially great.

how do i describe it? ehm, well to my ears, it's just loud, white noise; angry and industrial crapola.

makes me think of my younger years and how an old favorite: skinny puppy, by comparison sounds absolutely full of rhythm compared to this picaso of sound. i do like a variety of music but, sadly, could not listen thru any of this.

i'm only doing a review for those who, like me, like to try new music: if you are not sure what this is, fire up some P to P and download some tracks first. i wish i had =(

5 out of 5 stars WHOA! HEAR WE GO....   July 10, 2006

If there are any objections sustained on the standing up for the truth guidelines of Funk law & order by Bro. Bill Laswell, please be the first to fulfill the ignominy of such ROBOSAPIEN. Chief Sun Star Ali hears and feels the very essence of the far east coast connection, and some
reel reel Mean Mugging. Prepare once again the sound system, for
the "Deeper Prophecy is Clear!" Flick the lights, for the 'Last Dance' is near. THIS GUY'S A FUNKANOMICON!
