Less Than Fully Pleased February 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Description: This DVD presents ten or so turn patterns that I would describe, not as intermediate, but advanced. I have not seen Beginner Vol I, but that, I expect, covers beginner and intermediate. The instruction is fast-paced, but clear, and concludes each pattern with a slow-motion review. If you are at proper level to take advantage, this DVD will move you to the next level. Accentuate the positive: "New York Salsa" differs from its main rival, "SalsaCrazy," in flavor. The instructors in NYS are Latinos and their dance has club-style flair. Heat, tension. SC takes its time, perhaps two DVDs to cover the ground NYS covers in one, and more important, is just somewhat more "ballroom," correct, cool. Criticism: It borders on deceptive to call this DVD "New York Salsa." In New York we dance, as a rule, "on2," salsa not mambo. NYS teaches "on1." The two are different branches of one tree, distinctly different step patterns to the same rhythms.
Intermediate Salsa DVD July 16, 2007 I am an advance New York salsa dancer and I really recommend this DVD . South Florida loves all those moves.....Smiles
Nice dvd December 28, 2006 I would endorse it because it presents nice dancible combinations and the presenters are clear and friendly with their instructions. It was a bit distracting to hear the clicks of the shoes against the wood floor all the time however and I was sure i heard the horn of a truck in the background at one stage. the set is was to busy with too much to distract from the dancers themselves. Overall a nice dvd though.
A better value than lessons May 25, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Nice video. I thought it was a better way to learn than lessons if you have a partner at home who is willing to walk through the steps with you. Well worth it.
trendy, fast, and so much fun April 12, 2005 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have been looking for chic Salsa instructional DVD for quite sometime. Many I found are old styles, out of date, and make me bore for first time I saw, but not for this one. This DVD is more than I ask for. It is trendy, fast, and so much fun. Some experts I know call the style "Salsa-Mumbo" or "ON-1". I see the moves (on this DVD) used in every salsa dance floors in NYC and Miami.
Lessons are easy to learn and broken down in small parts systematically. Slow motion at the end every lesson will help you understand more. Besides, this DVD includes a lot of salsa tricks which help you to be better dancer.
If you dance Salsa ON-1, this is the DVD you should not miss. However, it is for people who have some experience in Salsa dance. It is an intermediate level. If you never dance Salsa before, I recommend the beginner DVD from the same studio which equally good as this one.
