Mel Bay's Solo Pieces for Alto Recorder June 26, 2008 I have been playing soprano/tenor recorder for awhile now, and decided it was time to learn the alto. I bought this book just to add some alto music to my library. As the title implies, it is for beginning alto, although there is an intermediate and an advanced book. There are 24 tunes here, all appropriate for the beginner. I don't know about the intermediate and advanced books, but this one has piano accompaniment along with the recorder music, and it comes with extra (loose) pages that have only the recorder music... kind of cool. When I get up to speed on the alto, I will probably buy the intermediate and advanced volumes.
Easy but not lowbrow. April 22, 2008 This is exactly what I was looking for. As a performing musician who has taken up the recorder, I was looking for simple pieces that could be performed and not sound pedestrian. This is it - something for the begginning adult musician.
The piano accompaniment is also easy - for a good pianist would be sight-readable, but suitable for an intermediate student, too. A wide variety of pieces to give a nice flavor without being daunting. The recorder part is provided in a separate pull out section of solo recorder part in addition to being noted with the piano part/score.Excellent.
