That adorable little imp Fievel Mousekewitz is back (An American Tail, An American Tail: Fievel Goes West). Plucky and determined, Fievel sets out on a quest for buried treasure, located under old New York City, where he and his family happily reside (although his sometimes-cranky father is a workaholic). Underground, Fievel meets a clandestine civilization of Native American mice, with a sweet little gal reminiscent of Pocahontas to provide a little romance to boot. This may be a direct-to-video offering, but the quality is topnotch--animation is rich and lush, and the original tunes are fun and catchy. Moreover, the movie stresses such welcome notions as loyalty, family, affection, friendship, honesty, and honor. There's even a modest but effectively put message about who really belongs in America. Dom DeLuise, Party of Five's Lacey Chabert, and David Carradine lend their voices to the production. (Ages 2 and older) --N.F. Mendoza

Plain & Simple- An American Tail & Fieval Goes West (1 & 2)...are two of the greatest cartoon movies to date...Why? Because of Director Don Bluth. i.e. (The Land Before Time.
The Original 1st Bluth movie surpasses all of the others.)
Stick with the originals - Only try'n to Help!

4 out of 5 stars A cut below the others, but still great   April 18, 2004

For various reasons, I refuse to watch Disney cartoons, and until my two-year-old figures out how to get somebody to rent them for her, she won't see any either. The *American Tail* series is one of the few great options left.

This installment is neither as well drawn nor as musically satisfying as its predecessors, but it may well be my favorite cartoon movie now.

Of course, that's because I *like* the "political correctness" that one reviewer derided. I think that immigrant laborers and Native Americans, struggling for their place in an unforgiving City, make far better heroes than princesses and princes waiting for their divine rights to be recognized.

If workers'/aboriginal rights seem like kind of a drag to you, then you may want to head over to the *Lion King*; I'm sure Disney will be happy to take your money. If you'd prefer that your kids grow up with the (true) idea that America's story is more complicated than it first appears, this movie will be a great start.

And it's not like your kids will be bored with it. Since the DVD arrived three days ago, my daughter has frequently arisen from her nap already asking for 'mouse.' She likes Fievel and Papa just plenty, and I like the fact that she still has no idea who Mickey is.

Okay. Alright I thought it was lame. The political correctness . I thought kids movies were a safe haven from that. The acting [was no good]. The animation oh lord. The animation it was done by the crew that created animanics. I hate warner bros animation. The good points were Cholina and Fievel. They were true to themselves. Fievel he's more annoying in this movie. He was cute and spirited in the first movie. I'll give an account of the films' good points. The movie isn't some lame recap of the first. Two stars for a good effort. minus three stars for political correctness.
