Description
Based on historical facts, anecdotes and testimonies collected during the ten-year war, this is the story of the revolutionary hero Emiliano Zapata. The story begins in 1910 when Zapata was the head administrator of Ignacio de la Torre y Mire, son-in-law of Porfirio Diaz. He falls in love with Rosa Rendon, the beautiful daughter of a landowner, though they both realize that they belong in different worlds. Soon a revolutionary hero is created with the downfall of dictator Porfirio Diaz and encounters with President Madero, who was unable to meet the needs of the peasants due to intrigues within his own cabinet. Starring Damian Bichir, the well-respected Latin actor whose credits include Cilantro y Perejil, Santitos and Todeo el Poder

5 out of 5 stars This movie made me want to get up off my duff and cheer   September 12, 2007
Sometimes I think old Mexico has lost its soul, but then something like this apparently made-for-TV movie comes out, and I'm completely thrown. Bichir is unbelievably good, as is the entire cast. And the director deserves some sort of medal of honor. I'm just heartsick knowing that IMDB doesn't even list this movie. If you've got a drop of Mexican blood in your veins, or even just like Mexican food, you really need to see this wonderful little film. Bravo all involved!

5 out of 5 stars "Tierra y Libertad!!!" by tarascomichoacan   October 28, 2006
This movie is probably the best movie made about the revolution! It begins with the story of Emiliano Zapata, a young charro who breaks horses at a huge hacienda in Morelos, Mexico. When the patron sells him and the other Indian workers short, they form a rebellion and create an army in partner with Pancho Villa.Packed with action and suspense, and plenty of horses, guns and chase scenes, you're sure to enjoy!Definately worth your money!

5 out of 5 stars This is a well put together mini-series novela.   August 21, 2006
I am not much of a soap opera fan, but this mini-series was great and could not stop watching-it from start to finish. It is a historical and romantic type of series. Wish they had a english dubbed version so my friends who do not understand spanish see a bit of history of Mexico; and what the late 20th and early 21st Century Zapatistas are truly have been fighting all these years. "Tierra y Libertad" ("Land and Liberty")by GOD, Emiliano Zapata was a true human being who cared about the future of Mexico and its children. Anyone interested in Mexican history should purchase this movie, it is subtitled. Buy-it now!!!

5 out of 5 stars I only have two words for you: Lorena Rojas!   April 8, 2006
Though the mini telenovela is based on the life of Zapata the best part about it is of course the super acting of Lorena Rojas. One of the most talanted figures of spanish speaking tv. The story is well developed and the love story between Rojas and Damian Bichir is the best part of it. The life of Zapata is shown through the eyes of the creators and not the historic version of it.

3 out of 5 stars Historical biography ?   April 6, 2006
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

When I saw the comercial of this historical "telenovela" epic, I was very interested in watching it since I had finished reading various biographies of Emiliano Zapata. However, it began as a telenovela and had too many inaccuracies. Especially the way it showed that he was not interested in his wife, Josefa until she proved herself to him. In reality she was not into him, and her family never aproved of him because of their social standing, until he became General of the Rebel army did her family accept him into the family. All in all, if you want an accurate historical biography you must look into it yourself and come up with your own conclusions.
