Product Description Loosely based on a true story about the efforts of one man to bring marriageable women to the forests of the Pacific Northwest in the 1870s this vintage comedy from the 1960s was set in a Seattle logging community. The workers are threatening to leave due to the scarcity of women so the camp owners the Bolt brothers (Robert Brown Bobby Sherman and David Soul) do the only thing they can: import 100 women from Massachusetts. The brothers pull this off only by borrowing money from their rival Aaron Stempel (Mark Lenard) whose terms dictate that all the women have to remain for an entire year during which all quotas must be met. If not he takes control of the Bolt brothers' mountain. Much mischief ensues as the girls acclimate to camp life while Stempel does everything he can to impede that process and make them give up.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 043396130265 Manufacturer No: 13026
Amazon.com If you look at the premise of Here Come the Brides on paper, the whole series sounds rather bizarre: three brothers head East to find 100 young women who agree to move to untamed Seattle to marry the single men in town. The potential brides have to remain in Seattle for at least a year. If they don't, the siblings could lose their family business. But this show isn't set in a society where there's a Starbucks on every corner. Rather, it takes place in the late 19th century. Add some sassy dialogue and throw in Bobby Sherman and David Soul as youngest brother Jeremy and middle brother Joshua, respectively, and voila! The show evokes charming innocence, if not antiquated notions of how the sexes should behave. The episode in which a visiting Mormon bogarts four of the women for his own brides isn't so much shocking as it is curious. Why aren't the local men more worked up that this could cause some of their own to be without brides? The series, which lasted just two seasons, premiered on television in 1968 and helped springboard Sherman into a teen idol. The acting on the show by Sherman and his cast mates at times is self-conscious and stilted, but they share good chemistry and have fun with the scripts. One of the better-thought-out episodes aired early in the season. Jeremy's stuttering is miraculously cured by a charismatic magician (played by the late Jack Albertson, who ate up the scenery with relish), who turns out to be somewhat of a charlatan. The ending drives the point home that Jeremy needed as much faith in himself as he had in the magician. Like the series itself, yes, the sentiment is predictable. But it still makes for good TV. --Jae-Ha Kim

LOVE IT!!! September 5, 2008 I was excited to order this dvd. This was one of my favorite shows when I was young. I have very much enjoyed watching every episode and have watched most of them a least a couple of times so far.
The quality of the dvd is excellent with a clear picture, good color, and no flaws. Delivery of this product was excellent too, arriving just a few days after I ordered it. I would definitely order more dvds from Amazon.com.
Now I just have to wait for the second season to be put on dvd! I will be first in line to order from Amazon.com again.
Here Come The Brides Season One August 27, 2008 I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this series. Brings back all my memories of my favorite teen idol Bobby Sherman. The show is as good now as it was then. As for the theme song, the theme "Seattle" by Perry Como was't played until the second season, also Bobby Sherman released his singing version of the song on an album.
Looking forward to Season 2.
Great entertainment August 18, 2008 Good shows. Themes are valid today and it's quality viewing throughout. My 11 year old daughter is watching them with my wife and I and loves them. It's hard to find shows this good in today's world.
remembering the past August 18, 2008 I hadn't seen any of these shows since they were originally on and I was amazed how much I remembered about them. I was disappointed that the song by Perry Como wasn't in the shows,I can still sing all the words. The acting isn't going to win awards, but they are still fun to watch. I enjoyed the show when it first came out and I still enjoyed them now.
I've been waiting for this! August 10, 2008 I watched every episode when this was on television. I am so happy to now own it on DVD. All I can say is WHEN WILL THE SECOND SEASON BE AVAILABLE?!
