I'm telling you, I released it six times! December 30, 2008 The beautiful people of Anchor Bay, scions of releasing lost slasher gems and coming out with deluxo packages galore for the fanatic, really dropped the ball with the Myers project.
Halloween has been released approximately 97 times in the last year alone, so you'd think Anchor Bay would finally just do it and include every stinking version, every extra, and every format in this thing, and do it right. DVD and Blu-Ray, and VHS, too. What about every format it's ever been released on, ever? I'm serious. Enough is enough.
But it's not. As several have already pointed out, Anchor Bay slapped this baby together with every bit of product they have rights to. So you have the Extended Cut (aka the TV Version), and you have the documentary 25 Years of Terror, and then you have...Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, just thrown in there because...Anchor Bay has the rights. You don't get all of the extras from the previous DVD releases of Halloween, though you do get the Blu Ray (which was already separately released). And including H4 and H5 without the far better H2 (and even the insanity of H3) makes this plain silly. I guess they figured it was the 20 anniversary of Halloween 4, too, which I'm surprised isn't getting a separate box set of its own, complete with version four mask. And the mask? Come on, it's no good...this thing is plain cheesy. A replica knife would have been better, even a pair of coveralls, but not this thing.
No, this is not the Holy Grail of Halloween boxes that you'd think a 30 anniversary would warrant (though they did do a nice 25 year thingee...five years ago). Stick with the Divimax version of the original, and the widescreen version of part II. Would recommend this only if you find it on a (big) sale (it's overpriced) and don't own two or more of the versions here. Plus you can keep the mask. Even a Loomis raincoat would have been more useful.
Great dvd Set well waited for December 4, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you own all the films dont buy it. This would be a waste. & the rob zombie remake was a diffrent point of view. This box set was well waited for some people dont own all the films and like geeting them all at once. like me. they were all pretty good moviesHard to pick the best one .So if you only want to get each movie spreat then do it if youu want the box then get the box...
Don't Wort To Buy !! December 2, 2008 Poor this is all I can tell you !! Nothing Special !! Waste Of $$
Awesome set! November 3, 2008 Granted most Horror fans already own these films, but it's cool to have Halloween (extended, DVD, Blue-Ray) H4 and H5 all in one set with a cool Myers mask in the middle of the box. Great gem to pick up to bring back the joy of Halloween. This set arrived just in time, awesome! All we need now is a full fledged boxset of all the Halloween films like the Nightmare On Elm Street box. \m/
ANCHOR BAY PLEASE STOP!! October 29, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
First off, let me state I've always loved Anchor Bay as a company since they first started releasing some of the most hard to find horror titles around that some of us would have never seen. When they announced they were coming out with a 30th Anniversary Edition, I almost fell out of my chair. With that said, this 30th Anniversary Box Set of Halloween is one of their lowest points in the company's history. It seems they wanted to re-release the SE Halloween some time ago (they watch Ebay also and noticed the ridiculous prices consumers were paying for it) but didn't want to give it away for the $15-$20 it should command. So then they decided to throw in the 2 movies they have rights to (to boost up the price). Add a BR version (which was coming out anyway) and a flimsy mask and they have their price ($50). In these hard financial times, a $50 box set (which isn't even complete) should be boycotted at all costs. This is the same marketing tactics used on the releases of Grindhouse ("let's make 2 separate DVDs of both movies") and The Reanimator ("let's re-release the same DVD every 5th year"). MESSAGE TO ANCHOR BAY: If you don't have anything new to add to a DVD or Box Set, leave it alone! If you can't get the rights to the other Halloweens, don't make another Box Set. The only thing you can add to another Halloween release is the "found footage" or the Producer's Cut of H6. If you can't get the rights of any of these, DO NOT RE-RELEASE THIS MOVIE AGAIN!!
