Holy camp site, Batman! After a fabulously successful season on TV, the campy comic book adventure hit the big screen, complete with painful puns, outrageous supervillains, and fights punctuated with word balloons sporting such onomatopoeic syllables as "Pow!," "Thud!," and "Blammo!" Adam West's wooden Batman is the cowled vigilante alter ego of straight-arrow millionaire Bruce Wayne and Bruce Ward's Robin (a.k.a. Dick Grayson, Bruce's young collegiate protege) his overeager sidekick in hot pants. Together they battle an unholy alliance of Gotham City's greatest criminals: the Joker (Cesar Romero, whooping up a storm), the Riddler (giggling Frank Gorshin), the Penguin (cackling Burgess Meredith), and the purr-fectly sexy Catwoman (Lee Meriwether slinking in a skin-tight black bodysuit). The criminals are, naturally, out to conquer the world, but with a little help from their unending supply of utility belt devices (bat shark repellent, anyone?), our dynamic duo thwarts their nefarious plans at every turn. Since the TV show ran under 30 minutes an episode (with commercials), the 105-minute film runs a little thin--a little camp goes a long way--but fans of the small-screen show will enjoy the spoofing tone throughout. Leslie H. Martinson directs Lorenzo Semple's screenplay like a big-budget TV episode minus the cliffhanger endings. --Sean Axmaker

5 out of 5 stars Blu ray disk review   January 7, 2009
I was nicely surprised by the transfer here. Like you hear in most reviews the textures of the set and costumes are vividly apparent, the Batmobile has never shined so brightly before, and the print dont show its age much. The 1 time I talked to Adam West he said Fox had yet to show a profit from this movie, meaning hes not getting residuals. I sure hope that has changed by now. No one out there needs a movie review of this film from me, just know its worth the upgrade 4 guys and gals of a certain age. Speaking of which we are not getting any younger waiting 4 the TV series on DVD or Blu ray!!! Come on Fox and whoever, make it happen before we grow to old!! Thanks 4 your time

4 out of 5 stars Classic Kitsch 60s camp caper   October 19, 2008
DO NOT get this for superlative acting or cinematic brilliance. It's just SO silly that it is priceless and highly enjoyable. The villains are a bit weak especially the Joker, but the Dynamic Duo are as camp and corny as ever. Could have been a little bit shorter. Otherwise classic silly entertainment - the shark and bomb scenes are so ridiculous they have to be seen to be believed. Hilarious!

5 out of 5 stars Riddle Me This!   October 18, 2008

For a segment of the Baby Boomers, Batman is Adam West, Robin is Burt Ward and comic book fun reigns supreme. Then, a "Dark Knight" would be spelled a bit differently and mean cloud cover at midnight.

This 1966 movie features four villains - The Joker (Cesar Romero), The Penguin (Burgess Meredith), The Riddler (Frank Gorshin), The Catwoman (Lee Meriwether) - who combine forces as The United Underworld, with the goal of turning the nine United World Security Council members into multicolored crystals. It is up to the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder to save the world from this fearsome foursome.

Originally planned as the pilot film for the TV series, the movie was produced between the show's first and second seasons. The movie is a fun romp of 105 minutes - there are several bonus features included - and clearly shows that The Joker isn't alone in saying, "A joke a day, keeps the glum away!"

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious!   October 16, 2008
This is the other half of Batman. You've got the Christian Bale one, and this one. Both are great. The you got Tim Burton's and Joel Shumacher's uneven films, that are meh. See this!

5 out of 5 stars HOLY SMOKE BATMAN! NICE DVD EDITION!   October 8, 2008

Well after watching a few of the newer Batman films, I figured it was time to revisit the original Batman Movie from the mid 60's. Both DVD releases are the same, so if your looking to buy this movie, buy the cheapest one!

The film itself looks clean with vibrant colors and clear sound. This is such a fun movie for fans of the series because it has so many Bat-thingys! The word 'camp' should be defined by this film with the entire cast whooping it up to make this a fantastic and entertaining cartoon like movie. The action never stops from the opening with Batman fighting a shark while hanging from a ladder attached to the Bat-copter to the Bat-boat VS Penguin submarine battle finale!

The DVD transfer is excellent and there are many cool extras to keep Bat-fans busy for a while. Both releases have the same extras and quality transfer. Till the next Batman review...... same Bat time.....same Bat channel!
