Amazon.com Vin Diesel is no James Bond, and he doesn't want to be. That's why XXX announced Diesel as the adrenalin-junkie Bond of the PlayStation generation, copying the Bond formula so shamelessly that this action-packed silliness would be a Bond movie if it starred Pierce Brosnan. Reuniting Diesel with his Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen, XXX has an attitude (if not a brain) all its own, plucking Diesel's Xander Cage from his celebrity as an extreme sports renegade, recruited by a National Security Agency big shot (Samuel L. Jackson) to foil a nasty Czech villain (Marton Csokas) who's eager to depopulate Prague with remote-controlled biological weaponry. Toss in a sulky, sultry Russian agent (Asia Argento) and you've got extreme Bond-age for anyone who thinks tuxedos are passe. With a handful of eye-popping action sequences, XXX launched a movie franchise with a cool guy, another cool muscle car, and plenty of box-office sizzle. --Jeff Shannon

PG-13 action at it's best April 1, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
XXX is clearly one of the best PG-13 action movies of 2002. The film is full of amazing stunts, action sequences and one-liners. Vin Disel should have been the new action star of the millenium. While XXX should been his second franchise following Pitch Black sadly it wasn't and we lost a new action star on our hands in the form of Disel. It would have been nice to see the action movie posters saying Disel on top of the title in films such as XXX2, Hitman and A History Of Violence but oh well.
007 comes to America! March 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This movie is awesome! OK, imagine this, OK, a stuntman, arrested and called into the FBI to defuse a bomb and end a nuclear crisis on a global scale; I for one think that THAT plot, had Ian Flemming come up with it first (which, who knows, could've been the story on his mind before he left), would've been a brilliant Bond movie plot. This version fairly amazed me, though, in a sense that all the deleted scenes from the other version were, unfortunately, added to the film, but brilliantly placed. Thus, giving the second disc a purpose, with special features such as 'The Death Of Xander Cage,' a somewhat sorry (but fullfilling) explanation to the sad no-show of Vin Diesel in X2: State Of The Union, and also includes the music video to 'Adrenaline,' the end credits sequence... without the end credits (which still confuses me, too), and a lot more! IT WAS AWESOME!!!
New Age James Bond... March 16, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
"XXX" with Vin Diesel and Asia Argento is extreme pop culture fun for the new millenium. While it might not be the greatest plot or most believable storyline, its still fun.
The movie opens with an iconic superspy out of his element in the new world of extreme rock and Euro hardcore. The director makes it clear that a new kind of spy is needed for some of the more clandestine assignments.
The stunts and scenarios are culled from every extreme sport and played with seriousness. Laughable at some points, its still a lot of fun.
Vin plays the rogue turned government agent well, and I think it was a good role for him.
The movie is fun and worth a watch.
High Def, What? January 21, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Purchased this, wasted money. If your gonna release high def movies(sony),shouldn't they be high def? There is way too much grain on this disc and when there isn't the picture is 'soft'. When I say soft I mean not much details, especially in 'face' shots(don't get me wrong there are some bright spots on the disc). Love the high def format alot but studios need to make sure we are getting just that on every release and not rush these things to market just to make a quick profit(the format is about the 'DETAILS'). If you do it right the 1st time you'll find us coming back for more without hestitation, without having to go to sights like highdefdigest reading reviews to make sure the video quality is OK.
Mr. Xtreme Sport say hi to 007 Mr. James Bond December 8, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After watching the Chronicles of Riddick, I checked for other Vin Diesel films at Netflix and came accross this movie. As I watched it, I realized the James Bond Franchise had been taken hostage and I was watching a Bond film, Extreme Sports Edition. Besides Diesel as Bond, there is also a M and a nerdy Q (the gadget master).
As Bond films go, it is more on the level of "Never Say Never Again" and it is not as slick as the Albert Broccoli franchise films. Compared to Never Say Never, Diesel is no Sean Connery and, sadly, the babe is no Kim Basinger. But still, if you are looking for a save the world Bond type action adventure film with pretty good stunts, you could watch far worse than this movie.
