Amazon.com The offbeat supernatural adventure Chrono Crusade takes place in 1928, when the hedonistic culture of Prohibition-era New York has fueled a rise in Satanism. Sister Rosette of the Magdalene Order is a klutzy, gun-toting exorcist-cum-devil-hunter who wrecks her period cars, blows up the wrong buildings, and generally adds to the headaches of her superiors. Her level-headed partner Chrono tries to rein her in and minimize the damage. He's a devil (literally), but he's bound to Rosette by psychological and magical ties. The supporting cast includes a lecherous inventor who peeks up Rosette's habit; handsome Father Remington; Azmaria, a mysteriously powerful girl who adores Rosette; and the formidable head of the Magdalene Order, Sister Kate (who doesn't shimmy). Chrono Crusade was adapted from a long-running manga by Daisuke Moriyama, and its biggest weakness is the central character. Rosette is a screechy, clumsy comic heroine, but she and the Magdalene Order are all that's keeping the devil Aion from realizing his nefarious plot to remake the universe. Chrono Crusade feels like someone dropped Lina Inverse from Slayers into Hellsing: it's too dark to be funny, but too silly to take seriously. Although many anime series depict battles against devils and demons, the constant references to holy water, God, the Vatican, etc. in Chrono Crusade may offend religious viewers, especially Catholics. (Rated TV 14 V, suitable for ages 15 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, risque humor, nudity, bizarre religious imagery) --Charles Solomon

Anime outside Asian Borders October 8, 2008 This series starts off rough but by the 3rd or 4th episode it got my interest. The animation is well done for the most part. The action picks up after the history lesson, which was interesting as well- just sloow. So far the series isn't off to a bad start. I like when Anime settings venture away from the traditional Asian borders/ history. This one takes place in 1928 Prohibition-era New York. I like the animation of how the time period looked with cobblestone and such.
Chrono Crusade September 1, 2008 This series is not overly long but has enough length to make it worth watching over again. The story is great and the characters all keep you interested in the story. You never run out of new revelations about each character. I bought this and never looked back.
Moving Anime of Love August 1, 2008 Even though it had a religous theme I didn't base my 5 star rating on that I did it on the char development and the moving seens in the anime itself. Im a sucker for anime that moves me and makes me feel the way the chars do. It was sad and the fight scenes are awesome as well, if your not into sad romance scenes or anything that deals with any type of serious emotions don't get it, its not for you. But if you like to be able to become one and feel the chars sadness then go for it. Besides Fruits Basket this anime was also one that made me cry.

Perfect, extra fast shipping, brand new product, what more could you ask for? Just prefect.
Wish I saw the same thing the 5 star reviewers saw. March 26, 2008 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I didn't see a lick of greatness when watching Chrono Crusade in the slightest. All I saw was an average anime with a religious theme(no doubt the reason it's rated so high). Taking itself way too serious at times but making it difficult for me to take it serious. Chrono Crusade suffers from bad pacing, barely developed characters, meaningless comedy, and filler episodes that doesn't add anything to the story. If not for the second half and ending. This series would be rubbish.
Chrono Crusade takes place during the twenties in NY. An organization exists called The Magdalene Order and their purpose is to battle demons and devils. They combat these creatures with guns. The nuns are the ones packing the heat. The main character Rosette Christopher who is a member of The Order. Is trying to find her younger brother who was kidnapped by a devil. Helping her is a devil named Chrono. Together they engage the demons on their missions.
Alot of the problems is in the first half(although the second is far from flawless). I really tried to like this anime more. I really did. But it was difficult for me. When any anime or film to me introduces buckets load of comedy and wacky characters. Then later take a turn for the darkside and try to tell a deep story. Or switches from serious to not serious at the drop of a hat. It just loses me. The theme was just too dark for the comedy. Chrono Crusade used religious themes and religious mythology concerning the apocalypse, God and Devils. The comedy was just out of place and I just didn't really enjoy it.
The first half of episodes are badly paced and does a bad job in pushing the series. The characters although likable are just barely developed and cliche ridden. Pointless filler takes their place. The villians are pretty interesting also. But they all have that seen that before feeling.
Now there is a few things that Chrono Crusade does right. The second half picks up alot with the plot and becomes more gripping. The last 5 episodes especially does the series justice. There is some good action consisting of gunplay, magic, and even exorcism. The battles later declined in quality due to the budget. But it's the storytelling and suspense that standouts.
The soundtrack isn't very good to me but I do like the opening and ending themes. The animation is pretty good and the character designs for most of the demons are very good. The dark atmosphere fits well with the mood when things get serious.
Chrono Crusade to me is not an outstanding series. Is it entertaining and fun to watch? It most definitly is but it doesn't introduce or take any new steps to set itself apart, from other series of it's genre. I'm very sure the things that bothered me. Isn't going to bother others and some people are just easily pleased when it comes down to anime anyway. The 5 star reviews are proof. So if my cons are pros to you, then by all means get this. Pay as much as you want for it because it just might be for you.
Here's several more chick with guns anime that you might enjoy if that's your thing. Burst Angel, Noir, Madlax, Najica Blitz, Dirty Pair, Gunslinger Girl, & Mezzo Forte.
