4 out of 5 stars Superb "Field Sequential" 3D   December 1, 2008
Although the original anaglyph version of Spy Kids 3D is one of the best examples of that type of 3D around, sadly, although the 3D effect is great, as always with anaglyph, you lose the colours and can get bad eye-aches and headaches. Personally, I also suffer from redeye when I watch anaglyph 3D movies and so only watch the HQFS versions. If you have the shutter type 3D glasses and a way to watch field sequential 3D, this version is the best and looks great. Full colour, with the same 3D effect, but most important of all, no eye-aches or headaches that are associated with the anaglyph versions.

5 out of 5 stars Best Version You Can Buy   July 27, 2008
I compared this field-sequential 3-d to the original red-cyan 3-d version, this version is the best that you can buy. There is more out-of-screen effects, better quality, and it doesn't hurt your eyes like the red-cyan glasses. But you do have to buy a field-sequential 3-d viewing system. The one I use is 3d theater. It comes with 2 3-d shutter glasses to view this movie properly. It is $40 but it's well worth it when you watch this movie and the IMAX 3d movies.

4 out of 5 stars The best HQFS till now !   April 23, 2008
This is the best HQFS DVD till now. I'm waiting for the big horror movies to sell in this format like JAWS 3D, FRIDAY 13TH 3. If you like real 3D, you should buy this one.

4 out of 5 stars Sheer entertainment   April 9, 2008

The Spy Kids movies have always been a little over the top, and this one is no different. I don't mind over-the-top movies if they are done well; in fact, the over-the-topness is part of why they are so funny. From the start of this movie, with Juni playing a private eye in the style of the old Humphrey Bogart movies, I knew I was in good hands.

The acting is quite good for the most part (with the exception of some actors who have very small parts toward the end; nothing important or movie-breaking), and some of the concepts are worth the price of admission alone, as it were, such as Sylvester Stallone playing four different versions of himself--including a fascist martinet, a nerdy scientist, and an aging love hippie. Whoo hoo! And for that matter, some of the outtakes in the closing credits were pretty funny, too.

The basic story is that The Toymaker (Stallone) has created a virtual reality game that will take over the minds of all those who play it. Juni's sister has already tried to get into the game to stop it, but has (mentally) vanished inside. Juni's mission? Go inside the game, find his sister, and stop the game before it goes live.

Of course, Juni accepts the challenge (another thing I love about the Spy Kids movies--the family whose members truly love and care for each other), but meets many obstacles along the way, including young beta testers who are jealous of their territory and get in his way as much as possible. Lots of action, lots of fun.

I won't spoil the movie, though I will say there are some wonderful cameos (including one by Elijah Wood, best known to many as the actor who so wonderfully brought Frodo to life). George Clooney has a small but amusing role (and one laugh-out-loud outtake in the credits), as does the inestimable Ricardo Montalban. Alas, we see only a few seconds of Antonio Banderas, but that's okay--the rest of the movie and cast make up for it. (Though can anyone truly make up for the lack of Antonio Banderas?)

I highly recommend this as a fun romp. Don't have high expectations of it as some kind of artsy film; it is pure entertainment, and proud of it.
