Description Armed with Merrill's cunning, Genie's strength, and Melissa's prayers, this all-female band has no trouble raiding ancient ruins, unless a magic seals blocks the way. They set out to hire a magician, but all the magicians they meet prefer ereading to raiding-except Louie, a brash novice who seems to do better with his fists than his spells!

A Nice Anime Of An RPG-Like World October 18, 2008 If you've ever played RPG either the board games or video/computer games you might find this series entertaining. The series is very light-hearted and while there are some drama scenes there nothing to bad to take seriously. You have the main three female characters Melissa a young priestess of the church who has divine magic, Merrill the greedy plucky thief, and Jeanie the tough no-nonsense warrior of the group. Deciding they need a fourth female magician member they try recruiting in town but the only magician who wants to go on adventures is a bumbling, clumsy, and a little dim-witted male wizard by the name of Louie. Louie tries his best to help an while his fighting abilities are pretty good his skills with spells and magical items has a lot to desired. Through the series you'll see some other characters who'll either help the group on their quests or hinder them. Again most of the episodes or pretty light-hearted and humorous so if you like the more dramatic anime series I would say say check something else. The voice actors did a superb job both the Japanese and English cast get kudos for the job. The extras as usual for most box sets isn't much just some trailers and the text-less intro/ending songs. So if your looking for a nice fantasy anime but one not dark, dramatic, or bloody violent this one would be a good choice for your library
A fun and fantastic adventure that never dares to take itself too seriously August 14, 2008 Rune Soldier Complete Collection brings together the complete 24-episode "Rune Soldier" fantasy-comedy anime television series in one affordable thinpack box set! Created by Ryo Mizuno (known for his work in the more serious fantasy anime "Record of Lodoss War"), Rune Soldier is about a trio of female adventurers - Genie the deadly fighter, Merrill the sly thief, and Melissa the effeminate yet potent cleric - in search of a powerful magician to shore up their ranks. But instead of a mighty veteran adventurer magician, the best they can find is the lecherous, klutzy, and incompetent novice Louie! A fun and fantastic adventure that never dares to take itself too seriously, Rune Soldier Complete Collection is enthusiastically recommended to fans of the genre.

Well, first, if and when you watch this, you wont want this series to end, which is a big bummer. Not that the ending is not good enough, its fine as it is, but you really get into the characters, like one does when watching Cowboy Bebop or Berserk. Just to be clear, this is nothing like Cowboy Bebop or Berserk, this is a fantasy/comedy anime, which originated from Manga Novels. The novels go past this series I believe, so maybe one day they will make additional episodes, and I think they have...

Just an Okay collection July 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm not completely sure why some people rated this anime with five stars... perhaps if it were my very first collection I'd agree. I like funny anime, but unless you get a kick out of girls inexplicably beating up on powerful men, you may not enjoy this one as much as others. In its defense, it does improve itself each disc. Each character has a good foundation and the series does have potential. Perhaps the second collection can pick up from the final disc and actually pull off some really good entertainment. I wasn't upset I purchased this, but definitely don't expect a 4 1/2 - 5 star collection. *shrugs*
ONE OF THE BEST! July 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I absolutely loved this anime! It was a nice change from the depressing animes I had watched; like Basilisk, Samurai 7 and such. The only depresing thing about this series is that it ended.
The main character Louie is great, stupid, but great and funny. The three women he teams up with can get a bit annoying at the beginning because of their abuse and hateful actions/comments towards Louie. But somewhere in the 2nd disc you'll learn to love the red-head, Genie; and the brunette, Meryl. You may find yourself hating the blonde even after it's all over.
But I highly recommend this Anime to anyone looking for a lot of laughs and humor. There is some crude humor and slightly perverted jokes. Plus there are times when the girls get naked, though nothing is ever shown. All in all, it deserves a 6 star rating!
