Product Description Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 02/12/2008
Amazon.com James Stewart reunites with his Harvey director, Henry Koster, in this 1962 comedy, which is charming enough even though it doesn't seem quite up to the level of talent involved. (The screenwriter is the legendary Nunnally Johnson--writer and director of The Three Faces of Eve, among many other titles--and the music is by Henry Mancini.) But it is pleasant, summery entertainment with Stewart and his screen wife, Maureen O'Hara, taking their urban family to a crumbling, seaside house for a vacation. The film was calculated to pull in older fans with Stewart as well as draw in a younger crowd that would enjoy the fairly extensive beach scenes with pop-star Fabian. Stewart is deft with the easy jokes about bad plumbing and such, and golden in several nice moments where he gets to play an attentive dad to his kids. --Tom Keogh

A classic not to be missed December 2, 2008 Our collection of classics would be nowhere if we did not include the jewels provided by Jimmy Stuart, one of the most charismatic stars of the 20th Century. Born May 20th, 1908, James Maitland Stewart lived for 89 years, providing the world with an acting style that captured the hearts of millions of Americans and the world at large. Nominated for several Academy Awards, Jimmy Steward won one and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Some of the unforgettable works include; Mr. Smith goes to Washington, Harvey, It's a wonderful life and Vertigo. If you collect the best movies of all times you will realize that Jimmy Stewart appears in many of them, staring in comedies, westerns, mysteries but always acting in films that the entire family can watch.
He worked with many famous directors but our favorite is when he worked with Alfred Hitchcock. In this film, we see Jimmy Steward with a great cast: Maureen O'Hara playing his wife, Fabian, John Saxon and Marie Wilson among others. The movie starts by his writing a letter to his wife to let her know that the vacation they just took will never take place again and as he writes, the story opens to surface a wife that wants to take her family on a vacation and she has received the chance to use a friends house for the summer. When they arrive, the house is in such disrepair that it almost looks haunted and the fun starts as the kids, spoiled by the comforts of the city start to have to deal in an environment where much is missing... even running water. Some of the lines are rather cute, such as the lady that takes care of cooking leaving the family because Jimmy Stewart was "swearing." The couple stares at each other in disbelief because he never does and he says: What did I say this morning? I only asked my daughter to go with me to take some "sun by the beach." And at this, both become hysterical because the foreign help understood... SOB. If you want clean comedy, a view to simpler times, and great performances, this movie is highly recommended. Don't miss it!!!
BRINGS BACK MEMORIES November 8, 2008 This movie was a favorite when I first saw it and I still love it. What's not to like about Jimmy Stewart and Maureen O'Hara. You have to love Mr. Hobbs' attitude towards kids being seen but not heard. Guess it's not politically correct today, but makes for a very funny movie with old-fashioned values. AND Fabian is in this movie! Remember him--I recently saw him in person and he looks just the same now as then--really. Sit back and enjoy reveling in the past!
Love It! October 7, 2008 I love the classic movies. This is very entertaining; really shows Jimmy Stewart's talent.
Gotta love Jimmy Stewart August 24, 2008 This movie is a beloved memory from decades ago. Classic Jimmy Stewart and typical for movies of its time. No deep meaning, no social commentary, just a light-hearted look at how life used to be.
Mr. Hobbs takes a Vacation August 13, 2008 Jimmy Stewart and Maureen O"Hara , push the envelope as parents in this typical 60,s era film. It has it funny moments but not there best work.
