For the wages of sin is death; October 18, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
These are two terrific musicals, but both so sad; neither protagonist can escape the worldly consequences of their sin.
Moulin Rouge is a tragic love story, with the story's heroine finding true love and ready to turn her back on a life of shame just in time to find out it's too late. I thought Ewan McGregor made an adorable love interest, and was surprised to find out both he and Nicole Kidman sang their own parts. Great singing, clever use of pop tunes, memorable musical numbers.
All That Jazz chronicles a gifted Broadway choreographer's descent into a doom of his own making. He craved his sins above everything and every one he loved most, including his career success and his beloved daughter. The movie is at its best when it is at its most surreal. For me, the one detraction was the dance number shown to the show's investors, which was just a gratuitous, eroticized gymnastics act.
A great pairing of two movies perfect for a two-boxes-of-tissues movie night.
How is this PG-13? November 4, 2005 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
These are two of my favorite movies, but this is a question more than a review - how is this 2-for-1 package rated PG-13? All That Jazz was rated R. Has it been edited, does anyone know? Or did they soften the rating because times have changed since 1979 (and there was no PG-13 rating until a year or two later)...
itssssssssssss GREAT July 27, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
