Amazon.com Equal parts ER, Rescue Me, and Law & Order, Third Watch received critical raves when it premiered in 1999 on NBC. All 22 episodes from that first season are included in this 6-disc box set, and the episodes (many of which reflect political issues of the time) stand up well. The third watch refers to the 3 to 11 p.m. shift of firefighters, police officers and paramedics who risk their lives to keep New Yorkers safe. The show focuses on the lives of a handful of characters who are complicated, flawed, and charismatic. Kim Raver (24) shines as Kim, a paramedic who shares a strong bond with both her partner Bobby (Bobby Cannavale) as well as her ex-husband Jimmy (Eddie Cibrian), a firefighter with a predilection for gambling who clearly isn't over Kim. Created by John Wells (ER, The West Wing) and Edward Allen Bernero (Criminal Minds), Third Watch is well written and paces the storylines well. The episodes' endings reflect that not every case is easily solved and that there are unpleasant consequences involved in protecting the rights that many of us take for granted. None of the main characters are presented as over-the-top heroes, but rather as hardworking people doing the best they can. The show at times goes out of its way to depict how flawed some of them are, but the actors deftly draw the focus back to the bigger picture--how to protect people who seem intent on self-destruction. Through the first season, the characters will face addiction, heartbreak, and fear. The one thing that dates the show is the full frame presentation, which belies its era. The special features aren't particularly noteworthy--there's a blooper reel and a "making of" featurette, but no deleted scenes or audio commentary on any of the episodes. --Jae-Ha Kim

GreatService November 30, 2008 I was looking everywhere for this series and could not find it anywhere. I found it at Amazon.com. I am very satisfied with their service.
Third watch is Ed Mcbain's November 26, 2008 'Third Watch' is in many senses a real continuation of the famous Ed McBain's saga 'The 87th Precinct'.( Hill Street blues, The Shield, The District and NYPD were also remarkable good). I am dying to savoure the other seasons.(Are there VI-six- already???). Please hurry...there is so less good stuff on TV and in theaters that can compare to this series. J.P.Engels (Belgium).
Superb Television November 26, 2008 Third Watch is one of the best shows to have ever graced a television screen and the fact that it was prematurely canceled is a travesty and something that I'll never forgive NBC for. Everything about this show feels so real and powerful. These aren't just characters, they're real people. Never before have I been so connected to television characters -- after a while these people start to feel like your family and friends. You won't find many other shows that will draw you in as much as this one. This blows so many of today's shows out of the water it's not even funny. A truly underrated series, this is television at its finest!
If you're a fan of cop, medical, action, or drama shows then this is an absolute must-have; Third Watch has got it all. Hopefully we won't have to wait another three years for the next season to hit DVD...
Third watch November 24, 2008 I happened on this show one morning and fell in love with it. It's a great show and the dvd was in great shape when I received it
THIRD WATCH WAS A FIVE STAR SERIES November 20, 2008 The entire idea of mixing lives of Firefighters, Police and Rescue Squad characters in New York City was genius by the writers of this show. The scripts are as well written as any of todays CSI shows and the acting and emotions shown by each actor is wonderful. I simply can't see why the series was taken off television unless scenes became too difficult to film. This purchase of Season one is completely worth the price.
